Philip St. George Cooke

Philip St. George Cooke (June 13, 1809- March 20, 1895) was a career US Army cavalry officer in the mid 19th century. Cook traveled throughout the western United States and was active in the Mexican War by leading the Mormon Battalion from Santa Fe to California. He is an eye witness to many of the events that shaped and consolidated American expansion to the Pacific Coast.  Cook details his meeting with Antone Robidoux on the Kansas frontier with carts loaded with furs on their way to the Robidoux warehouse in St. Louis, as well as his adventures with the Mormon Battalion on the trail in Southern Arizona.
