George Fredrick Augustas Ruxton

George Fredrick Augustas Ruxton’s, Adventures in Mexico and The Rocky Mountains, sets forth his adventures in Mexico and the Rocky Mountains in the mid 1840’s. Ruxton traveled to Veracruz to observe the American war with Mexico.  Adventures provides the reader with descriptions which include Santa Fe and Bent’s Fort during this crucial time in the American West.

George Frederick Ruxton, b. July 24, 1821, was a British Army Officer, explorer and travel writer. Educated at Turnbridge School and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Ruxton provides a crediable view of the American Southwest, including the fur trade in the Central Rocky Mountains and interactions with Native Americans and the U.S. Army.
